What to do in the area?

Now this is a loaded question. Cranbrook and Kimberley area’s offer so many recreational opportunities that the possibilities are endless.

Golf anyone?

In just a short 25 minute drive you can play 7 different golf courses with 2 more in construction. Including Booleg Gap in Marysville, which offers players of any skill level a challenging course with some of the area’s best views. Or why not try Cranbrook Golf Club for a truly championship course. And who can wait for the newest Gary Player course at Wildstone. Grab your clubs and pick a course, you will not be dissapointed.

Powder pleasure!

Skiing and snowboarding at it’s best. Where else in the world can you find within a 4 hour drive, over 10 ski hills. There’s so many I can’t even name them all, but one thing I can tell you is that the powder is what people from all over the world come for. Our area offers great powder because of our dry climate, so don’t forget your snorkel.

Fishing paradise.

Fly fishing, spin cast, lake, river, creek. What more can I say, if you cast it, they will come. There is nothing wrong with getting off work at 5:30 and standing in your favorite fishing hole by 6:30.  It is one of the best parts of the Kootenay lifestyle. Hiking, biking, camping, RVing, hotsprings, orchards, it just doesn’t end. Once you come here, it will be difficult to leave, so please don’t tell me that I didn’t warn you.

Surge in Home Sales

Canada may be in for a surge in home purchases. The reason, the government will stop guaranteeing 40 year and zero down mortgages starting October 15.

This means that those that don’t have 5% down will likely try to get into the market before the new rules take effect. The rush will lead up to the October 15th deadline then slow again after the deadline.

The Federal government said it was making these changes to strengthen the housing market and to protect against a U.S style housing bubble.

In the long run this will be an important step for Canadians and the over-all housing market, although it will get thougher for families to invest in there first home, the risk of foreclosure will drop and as a result make our economy stronger.

So is now the time to get into the housing market, there is no good answer for that. You’re the only person that can decide. Yes, the lax measures right now make it much easier and should be taken advantage of, but if your financial situation doesn’t allow for the responsibilities of owning and managing a home, then keep on saving until the time is right.
